With her famous sister Winx famously slow away from the gates on occasions, it seems her big sister has inherited some of her occasional barrier antics and size too.
Winx’s Sister a two-year-old filly will require a barrier extension and barrier blanket in the starting stalls on Sunday.
“Winx’s Sister is just such a big filly, I think she just gets a bit claustrophobic in the barriers,” trainer Michael Freedman explained.
“The last two trials Winx’s Sister has had the barrier extension and barrier blanket and we will go with that (on) race day and hopefully get through without any incident.
“Winx’s sister is big everywhere … she is a big unit.”
Formerly named Taleitaki, Winx’s sister has been retained to race by her breeder John Camilleri.
Tommy Berry will ride Winx’s Sister from barrier three, having partnered her in her first trial back at Randwick this preparation when she finished second, before catching the eye to win her most recent trial over 1000m last Friday at Rosehill.
“I think Winx’s Sister has got some ability,” Freedman admitted.
“Trials are one thing, I don’t get too carried away, I’d rather see what they can do race day, but Winx’s Sister has certainly done a nice job at both her trials.
“Obviously Winx’s sister has got the pedigree to go with it, so it would be nice to get her going at the back end of her two-year-old year and keep her going and see where we get to.
“While 1100 metres is nice first time out, Winx’s Sister gives me the impression she will appreciate getting out over further.”
Half-sisters City of Lights (Joe Pride) and Time of My Life (Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman) both won on debut.
Vegas Showgirl, the dam of Winx, passed away last October aged 21.
The Smart Move: Getting Involved with Kurrinda Bloodstock
When it comes to investing in the horse racing industry, partnering with a trusted and proven syndicator like Kurrinda Bloodstock is a strategic decision that can significantly enhance your chances of success. Kurrinda Bloodstock is renowned for its meticulous selection process, ensuring that only the highest quality fillies are chosen for their syndicates. This careful selection is not just about immediate racetrack success but also about maximizing residual value, which is crucial for post-racing career opportunities in the sales ring.
Meticulous Selection for Success
Kurrinda Bloodstock’s approach to selecting well bred fillies to compete with elite fillies like Winx’s Sister is rooted in a deep understanding of the intricacies of thoroughbred genetics, conformation, and potential. Their team of experts, including bloodstock agents, veterinarians, and trainers, work collaboratively to evaluate each filly’s pedigree, physical attributes, and temperament. This thorough evaluation process ensures that only the fillies with the highest potential for racetrack success and future breeding value are chosen.
Pedigree Analysis
The pedigree of a filly just like Winx’s Sister plays a crucial role in its potential for success. Kurrinda Bloodstock focuses on fillies from proven bloodlines with a history of producing successful racehorses. This involves analyzing the performance of the filly’s ancestors, including their racing records, stamina, speed, and overall durability. By choosing fillies with strong pedigrees, Kurrinda Bloodstock enhances the likelihood of racetrack success and subsequent breeding value.
Physical Attributes and Conformation
In addition to pedigree, physical attributes and conformation are critical factors in selecting fillies. Kurrinda Bloodstock’s experts assess each filly’s physical structure, including bone density, muscle tone, and overall balance. These attributes are indicators of a filly’s potential to withstand the rigors of racing and maintain soundness throughout its career. A well-conformed filly is more likely to perform consistently and avoid injuries, thereby increasing its value both on and off the racetrack.
Temperament and Training Potential
A filly’s temperament is another vital consideration in the selection process. Kurrinda Bloodstock seeks fillies with a calm and trainable disposition, as these horses are more likely to respond positively to training and perform well under the pressures of racing. A filly with a good temperament is also easier to manage and less likely to develop behavioral issues that could hinder its performance and value.
