01Nathan Doyle
Nathan Doyle started his career with champion trainers Paul & Peter Snowden and Mark Newnham before partnering with Melina Gissing in 2019 to establish Doyle Racing in Scone NSW. He recently achieved outstanding success with Private Harry winning the 3 Million Dollar Sunlight race at Sunshine Coast. Currently operating his Newcastle facility with 30 horses in work, Nathan combines his passion, drive and knowledge from working with elite racing figures to deliver results for owners.
02Matthew Dale
Matthew Dale is a highly respected trainer based in Goulburn known for his attention to detail. He worked with Gai Waterhouse and John O'Shea before obtaining his licence in 2002/03. Matthew has won stakes races across 4 states and claimed the 2023 $2 million Kosciusko with Front Page. He operates a boutique stable with approximately 40 horses at Goulburn and 10 at Moruya, with world-class facilities including a swimming pool, beach access, river access, walking machines, massage equipment, and equine treadmills. His philosophy is that "adequate attention should afford every horse every chance to fulfil its potential."
03Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott have operated a formidable partnership since 2016 from the historic Tulloch Lodge. Waterhouse, daughter of renowned trainer TJ Smith, took over the lodge in 1992 and has trained over 150 Group 1 winners. Adrian Bott, a passionate horseman from youth, joined as co-trainer bringing a fresh perspective. Together they have trained numerous Group 1 winners, combining traditional methods with modern techniques to ensure every horse reaches its full potential.
04Mitch Freedman
Racing was always in Mitch Freedman's blood, despite taking a slight detour from family tradition. His grandfather was a bookmaker and his father worked in racing. He worked for Victorian trainers Kathryn and Craig Durden, Andrew Payne, and Dan O'Sullivan before becoming foreman at a leading Warrnambool stable, where he cared for talented horses including dual Group 1 winner Platelet, May's Dream, and Puissance De Lune. Mitch also travelled overseas studying David Simcock and Andrew Balding's European training techniques, bringing a global perspective to his craft.
05Stuart Kendrick
Stuart Kendrick is one of Queensland's leading trainers with consistent top 5 premiership finishes over the past five years. He currently sits 2nd in the 2024 Queensland trainers premiership with 117 winners and previously took premiership honours for 5 consecutive seasons at Mackay. Stuart bases his stable at Sunshine Coast with 45 on-course boxes featuring second-to-none facilities, and owns a farm 15 minutes from the track for freshen-ups. His 2024 highlights include the $500k Magic Millions Country Cup winner Zoumeter and multiple Metropolitan Saturday winners.
06David Pfieffer
David Pfieffer brings over 20 years of experience working with industry heavyweights Rod Craig, Graeme Rogerson, and the late Tony Wildman. His natural approach and eye for detail have brought esteem to his horsemanship within the Sydney training ranks. David owns 40 boxes on Warwick Farm racecourse. His notable gallopers include Graceful Anna, who secured the $1 million Magic Millions 3yo Trophy plus the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate, and Gai's Choice, winner of the Group 3 Gai Waterhouse Classic.
07Richard & Will Freedman
Richard Freedman grew up around horses and trained his first winner at age 18. He was part of the Freedman Brothers Dynasty in the 1990s, helping prepare over 100 Group 1 winners including five Melbourne Cups, four Golden Slippers, four Caulfield Cups, and two Cox Plates. His son Will completed the Godolphin Flying Start program before building his own business in Scone, then joining Richard in Sydney in 2022 — combining generational expertise with modern global training methods.
08Chris Waller
Chris Waller is a Kiwi from Foxton who arrived in Sydney 25 years ago virtually unknown. His first major journey with a mare at Wyong launched his remarkable rise to the very top of Australian racing. Best known for training the incredible mare Winx, he handled her career superbly despite enormous pressure — demonstrating calm, assured composure with dignity, humility, courtesy and candour. Chris Waller remains a credit to the sport of thoroughbred racing.
09Ciaron Maher
Ciaron Maher apprenticed to CS Hayes and became a successful jumps jockey before size prevented him from continuing his riding career. He committed to training after realising his natural interest and curiosity, spending time learning from Bart Cummings, Aiden O'Brien, and Willie Mullins before starting independently with just 6 boxes on his father's farm. His shrewd purchasing includes Jameka ($130k, sold for $2.6M — a three-time Group 1 winner) and Merchant Navy ($350k, sold for $27M). Based at Ballarat with operations at Cranbourne and Sydney.
10Travis Doudle
Travis Doudle is a vibrant former jumps jockey who built his reputation over twenty years starting in the small town of Port Lincoln. After a decade riding in Victoria, he returned home and started training with a father-built backyard stable — growing from four horses to a flourishing operation at Morphettville. Known for his hands-on approach, tailoring training to individual horse needs using beach gallops, forest trail work, and innovative conditioning. Wiggum won the 2023 Schweppervescence Plate at Flemington (Damian Oliver's final Melbourne Cup Day winner).
11Liam Ruddy
Liam Ruddy was granted his trainer's licence in 2025, establishing Ruddy Racing at Dartbrook Downs in the Hunter Valley. He trains a growing string with a focus on performance, progressive development, and long-term soundness. His training philosophy blends traditional horsemanship with modern training methods, with access to high-quality facilities including purpose-built yards, advanced training surfaces, and comprehensive conditioning equipment.
