A Group I winner of the ATC Champagne Stakes (1600m) at two and then a Group I VRC Oaks (2500m) winner at three, She’s Extreme bidding war at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale before Tom Magnier won the day with a final bid of $3.4million.
Consigned by Newgate Farm, who stand her sire Extreme Choice, She’s Extreme was trained by Anthony Cummings, who purchased her as a yearling at Inglis Easter for $275,000 from the Willow Park draft.
She was initially a pinhook success story having bred bred by Aquis and sold as a weanling through Inglis Digital in June 2020 for a modest $32,500.
She raced for a group of stable clients including Robert Crabtree of Dorrington Farm in whose colours she ran.
“It wasn’t just about the money, she’s extreme is a beautiful animal and we’ve loved our time with her,” said Robert Crabtree.
“She’s Extreme was a champion and congratulations to Coolmore. They bought Mizzy, a mare we bred and sold for $2.2million and now this one for $3.4million, so I wish them all the luck in the world.”
Coolmore’s Tom Moore spoke to Jemma Cutting after the sale.
“She’s Extreme was a great race filly and trained on to win an Oaks, so she had everything we look for in a mare,” Moore said.
“We bought She’s Extreme for a partnership that includes some of our international clients that are also involved with stallions like Shinzo, so we’ll go home and assess which stallions would suit her, but horses like Wootton Bassett and Home Affairs.”
Coolmore is hopeful She’s Extreme can become its next Chairman’s Sale success story after outlasting all rivals in the battle for the dual Group 1 winner in Sydney on Thursday night.
The global racing and breeding giant paid $3.4 million for the daughter of Extreme Choice, who lived up to her billing as the headline act of the prestigious Inglis offering.
Only last year’s $3.6m sale-topper Nimalee has sold for a greater amount at Chairman’s.
It is the sale Tom Magnier bought Blue Diamond winner Samaready for $1.8m and Oakleigh Plate winner Booker for $1.6m.
“Tom’s bought a lot of expensive mares here at the Chairman’s Sale over the last few years but has had a lot of luck with those mares, obviously highlighted by Samaready.
Who went on to be the dam of Shinzo, our Golden Slipper winner who is standing at stud this year,” Coolmore’s Tom Moore said.
“We also bought Booker at this sale, whose first two foals have sold for an aggregate total of $5.5 million.
“These are the type of mares that we want to get back to Coolmore and support our young stallions.”
She’s Extreme, a four-year-old, was sold as a breeding proposition only after injury ended her racing career, which was highlighted by Group 1 wins in the Champagne Stakes (1600m) and VRC Oaks (2500m). at her final start.
She’s Extreme other win came in the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes (1200m), while she was also placed three times at Group 1 level, in the ATC Sires’ (1400m), Flight Stakes (1600m) and Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).
She’s Extreme was sold by Newgate on behalf of the ownership group, which was headed up by her breeder Robert Crabtree, who was thrilled to see her find a new home at Coolmore.
“It wasn’t just a question of money, She’s Extreme was a beautiful animal, and it was thoroughly enjoyable for those that raced her,” Crabtree said.
“I’m really grateful to Coolmore, it’s the second multi-million-dollar horse that they’ve bought from me – they paid $2.2 million for Mizzy, that we bred – and now $3.4 million for She’s Extreme and I wish them the best of luck in the world with her.”
She’s Extreme was bought for a syndicate that includes members involved in Home Affairs and Shinzo and Moore said the former, a son of I Am Invincible, shapes as a potential suitor for She’s Extreme later this year, along with star shuttler Wootton Bassett.
She’s Extreme claimed Chairman’s Sale top lot honours from Brave Smash filly Kimochi, who for $2.2m as the fourth lot of the sale, while dual Group 1 Oaks winner Pennyweka was another to do well early in the sale, selling for $1.6m.
