Perini Miss Breaks Through in Dominant Fashion at Newcastle 2026 for Kurrinda Bloodstock

Perini Miss Breaks Through in Dominant Fashion at Newcastle 2026 for Kurrinda Bloodstock

There are few more satisfying moments in racehorse ownership than watching a horse finally deliver the performance you have always believed it was capable of producing.

For Kurrinda Bloodstock, that moment arrived at Newcastle on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, when Perini Miss produced a commanding front-running victory to break her maiden by almost three lengths.

The four-year-old daughter of Perast delivered a performance full of authority, leading from start to finish in the $42,000 New Era Technology Maiden Plate over 1500 metres.

Ridden beautifully by Regan Bayliss and prepared by Newcastle trainer Nathan Doyle, Perini Miss was never headed, eventually defeating Dance With Destiny by 2.78 lengths, with Golden Princess a further 1.7 lengths away in third.

It was a performance that left little doubt about her superiority on the day.

For connections, the victory was particularly rewarding because it followed a period of patience, a change of training environment and a decision to give the mare every opportunity to realise her potential.

After three unplaced performances to begin her racing career, Perini Miss had plenty to prove.

But on Tuesday, she proved it emphatically.

And for Kurrinda Bloodstock, the result reinforced an important philosophy: sometimes a horse simply needs the right environment, the right preparation and the right opportunity to show its true ability.

A Dominant Performance at Newcastle

Perini Miss entered Tuesday’s opening race as an $8.50 chance, having drifted from $6.50 in betting.

The market was clearly cautious.

Her previous form didn’t immediately suggest that a dominant victory was on the horizon, particularly after she had failed to finish in the placings at her first three appearances.

But racing isn’t always about what a horse has done previously.

Sometimes it is about what has changed.

And from the moment the barriers opened, Perini Miss looked like a different horse.

Jumping from barrier two, Regan Bayliss immediately established a forward position.

Rather than allowing the race to develop around him, Bayliss took control.

Perini Miss travelled comfortably in front, finding her rhythm and making the opposition race on her terms.

As the field approached the home turn, there was no indication that she was beginning to weaken.

Instead, she continued to travel strongly.

When Bayliss asked her to extend in the straight, the response was immediate.

Perini Miss accelerated clear, quickly establishing a decisive advantage.

The favourite, Dance With Destiny, was unable to bridge the gap.

Neither could Golden Princess.

By the time the winning post arrived, Perini Miss had put nearly three lengths between herself and her nearest rival.

She completed the 1500 metres in 1:31.48, with the final 600 metres recorded in 35.43 seconds on a Good 4 surface.

It was an impressive display of sustained speed, particularly from a mare who had yet to win a race.

More importantly, it was a performance that suggested there may be considerably more to come.

Nathan Doyle Makes the Difference

One of the most important elements of the Perini Miss story is the influence of trainer Nathan Doyle.

Doyle has developed into one of the most respected trainers in the Newcastle and Hunter region, and his association with Kurrinda Bloodstock has already produced outstanding results.

The partnership reached its greatest height when Private Harry captured the Group 1 Galaxy at Rosehill in 2025.

That success demonstrated the level of performance Doyle can achieve when entrusted with a talented Thoroughbred.

Perini Miss represents a different challenge.

She wasn’t arriving as an established Group performer.

She was a lightly raced mare who had shown limited results during her early career.

But Doyle and his team were given the opportunity to work with her, assess her requirements and develop a program suited to her individual needs.

Tuesday’s victory came at only her second start for the stable.

That is a significant turnaround.

It is also a reminder that successful training isn’t simply about getting the best out of elite horses.

Sometimes the most satisfying training achievements involve identifying what an ordinary-looking form line doesn’t reveal.

A horse may need more time.

It may need a different training routine.

It may respond to a change of surroundings.

It may require additional distance.

Or it may simply need the opportunity to mature.

Whatever combination of factors contributed to Perini Miss’s improvement, the result was there for everyone to see.

Doyle recorded his 15th winner of the new racing season with the victory, underlining the strong start his stable has made to the 2026–27 campaign.

A Change of Scenery and a Fresh Beginning

Perini Miss began her racing career in Queensland under the care of Stuart Kendrick at the Sunshine Coast.

Her first two starts came over 1200 and 1400 metres.

Although she failed to finish in the placings, those performances did not necessarily tell the full story of a young mare still learning her craft.

The decision was subsequently made to bring her south to Newcastle and place her with Nathan Doyle.

It was a decision that would prove significant.

Former Newcastle Jockey Club chief executive Maurice Sinclair, who bred the mare and retained an ownership interest, had discussed the possibility of the move with Kurrinda Bloodstock.

Sinclair later explained that he had suggested bringing Perini Miss to Newcastle because of the established relationship between Kurrinda and Doyle.

The mare’s first start for her new trainer came at Taree, where she again finished unplaced.

However, her second assignment produced a completely different result.

Stepping out over 1500 metres at Newcastle, she delivered the best performance of her career.

The transformation was remarkable.

Within two starts of joining her new stable, Perini Miss had progressed from an unplaced maiden to a convincing winner.

For everyone associated with the horse, it was a tremendous reward for maintaining confidence in her potential.

The Importance of Patience in Racehorse Ownership

Perini Miss’s victory is a wonderful example of why patience remains one of the most valuable qualities in racehorse ownership.

It is easy to become excited when a young horse begins its racing career.

Owners naturally hope for immediate success.

They dream about winning on debut, progressing through the grades and perhaps developing into a stakes performer.

But Thoroughbreds don’t all develop at the same rate.

Some are naturally precocious.

Others take longer to mature physically and mentally.

Some demonstrate their best ability over sprint distances, while others need to progress towards 1600 metres or further.

And some simply require a different approach before everything comes together.

Perini Miss has now demonstrated the importance of allowing a horse the opportunity to develop.

Her first three starts produced little to excite anyone looking solely at the results.

But those performances were only part of the picture.

Her Newcastle victory showed why it can be worthwhile to reassess a horse rather than immediately dismissing its ability.

At Kurrinda Bloodstock, the objective is to make decisions that give each horse the best opportunity to succeed.

That doesn’t mean every horse will become a champion.

It means recognising that individual horses have different requirements and that their careers need to be managed accordingly.

Perini Miss’s breakthrough was a satisfying example of that approach.

Regan Bayliss Produces a Perfect Front-Running Ride

While Nathan Doyle deserves enormous credit for preparing Perini Miss, Regan Bayliss also played a crucial role.

His ride was an excellent example of positive race tactics.

From barrier two, Bayliss took advantage of the mare’s early speed and established control of the race.

He didn’t allow her to become involved in an unnecessary battle for position.

He didn’t surrender the initiative.

Instead, he allowed Perini Miss to travel comfortably in front.

That decision was particularly important over 1500 metres.

Horses stepping up in distance can sometimes become vulnerable if they expend too much energy during the early stages.

Bayliss appeared determined to avoid that scenario.

He established a rhythm and allowed the mare to build into her work.

The result was a horse who still had plenty to offer when the field straightened for home.

Rather than shortening stride, Perini Miss continued to extend.

The margin grew.

Her rivals struggled.

And Bayliss was able to bring her home for a thoroughly deserved victory.

It was the type of ride that makes the most of a horse’s strengths.

For a mare still developing confidence, being allowed to travel freely and dominate a race could prove valuable moving forward.

A Special Family Connection at Newcastle

One of the most interesting aspects of Perini Miss’s victory is the remarkable connection between her racing career, her breeding and Newcastle Racecourse.

Perini Miss was bred by Maurice Sinclair and his fellow breeders, Colin Bell of Belsin Thoroughbreds and Kevin Wacey of Gleneagles Stud.

Sinclair is a former chief executive of the Newcastle Jockey Club, making Tuesday’s victory particularly meaningful.

But the Newcastle connection goes even deeper.

Perini Miss is out of the High Chaparral mare Santorini Miss.

And, remarkably, Santorini Miss also recorded her maiden victory at Newcastle.

Her breakthrough came on Boxing Day in 2016, when she won over 1300 metres on the Beaumont track for trainer Kristen Buchanan.

That victory proved to be the only success of Santorini Miss’s ten-start racing career.

A decade later, her daughter returned to Newcastle and followed in her footsteps.

There was another extraordinary coincidence.

Both mother and daughter broke their maidens at their fourth career start.

It is the type of family story that makes thoroughbred breeding so fascinating.

Different generations.

Different trainers.

Different circumstances.

But the same racetrack and the same milestone.

For the breeders who have followed the family over many years, it was a particularly satisfying result.

The Pedigree Behind Perini Miss

Perini Miss is a daughter of Perast, a dual Group 3-winning son of champion sire Snitzel.

Perast was a talented racehorse who demonstrated the speed and ability associated with the Snitzel sire line.

On her dam’s side, Perini Miss carries the influence of High Chaparral through Santorini Miss.

High Chaparral became an enormously influential stallion in Australasia, producing horses capable of excelling over a range of distances.

That combination of speed and stamina is particularly interesting when assessing Perini Miss’s future.

Her Newcastle victory came over 1500 metres.

And the manner in which she sustained her effort suggests that 1600 metres could be worth exploring.

Maurice Sinclair expressed similar thoughts following the victory, indicating his hope that the mare could continue improving and eventually perform over at least a mile.

Her pedigree offers encouragement for that possibility.

There is also evidence of ability within the immediate family.

Santorini Miss’s first two foals, Half Crown and Agnodice, won seven races between them.

That provides further encouragement that Perini Miss may be capable of building on her maiden success.

The family has continued to develop, with Santorini Miss subsequently producing a filly by Rebel Dane and a colt by Ellsberg.

For Kurrinda Bloodstock, the Newcastle victory adds another winning member to an established family.

A $17,500 Purchase With Upside

Perini Miss also represents an interesting example of the opportunities available in the Australian yearling market.

She was purchased for $17,500 at the 2024 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.

That is a relatively modest investment compared with the prices regularly paid for yearlings at Australia’s major sales.

The Australian yearling market attracts enormous attention when horses sell for hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars.

But there are opportunities at every level.

A horse’s purchase price does not determine its ability.

Nor does it guarantee success or failure.

Perini Miss’s victory illustrates that a modestly priced yearling can still provide a rewarding ownership experience.

Of course, purchasing a horse is only the beginning of the financial commitment.

Training, veterinary care, transport, spelling and ongoing management all contribute to the overall cost of ownership.

Nevertheless, the satisfaction of watching a horse purchased for $17,500 win convincingly at a major provincial venue is considerable.

For Kurrinda Bloodstock, identifying opportunities across different sections of the market remains an important part of creating accessible racehorse ownership experiences.

A Rewarding Result for Maurice Sinclair and Fellow Owners

The victory was especially meaningful for Maurice Sinclair, who has maintained an ownership interest in Perini Miss.

Following her sale, Sinclair explained that Kurrinda Bloodstock had invited the original breeding interests to remain involved.

That decision helped maintain a connection between the people who bred the mare and those responsible for developing her racing career.

It is a wonderful aspect of the thoroughbred industry.

Relationships formed through breeding, sales and ownership can continue for many years.

A breeder may watch a foal develop into a yearling.

That yearling may then be purchased by a syndicator.

The horse progresses through its education, begins racing and eventually achieves its first victory.

When breeders remain involved, they get to share in the entire journey.

Perini Miss’s success was therefore more than simply another maiden victory.

It represented the reward for a group of people who had maintained their belief in the horse.

For Sinclair, seeing a daughter of Santorini Miss win at Newcastle must have been particularly satisfying.

And for the wider ownership group, it provided another example of the experiences that make racing so enjoyable.

Another Success for the Kurrinda–Nathan Doyle Partnership

The relationship between Kurrinda Bloodstock and Nathan Doyle has become an important part of the operation’s success.

Private Harry’s Group 1 Galaxy victory in 2025 remains a defining achievement for the partnership.

But successful relationships between owners and trainers are not built exclusively around Group 1 victories.

They are also built through communication, trust and the ability to make decisions in the best interests of individual horses.

Perini Miss represents a different type of achievement.

She arrived at Doyle’s stable without a placing from three starts.

Her form offered little indication of the performance that was about to unfold.

Yet she responded with a decisive victory at only her second start for the stable.

That is an excellent outcome for everyone involved.

It also demonstrates the importance of matching horses with suitable training environments.

Not every horse requires the same approach.

The ability to recognise those differences can make an enormous contribution to a horse’s career.

For Kurrinda Bloodstock, having access to experienced trainers who understand those individual requirements is essential.

And Tuesday’s result provided another positive chapter in the relationship with Doyle and his team.

What Comes Next for Perini Miss?

The most exciting question following Tuesday’s victory is what Perini Miss might achieve next.

She has now broken her maiden.

She has demonstrated that she can lead and sustain her speed over 1500 metres.

And she has shown significant improvement since joining Nathan Doyle.

The next challenge will be translating that performance into stronger company.

Moving from maiden racing into Class 1 company is not always straightforward.

The opposition becomes more experienced.

The races can be more competitive.

And horses need to continue improving if they are to progress through the grades.

However, there are encouraging signs.

Perini Miss has only raced four times.

She is still relatively inexperienced.

Her Newcastle performance was her first victory and arguably the first occasion on which she fully demonstrated her potential.

There may be further improvement available as she becomes more familiar with her new surroundings and racing routine.

The mile also presents an interesting option.

Her breeding suggests that additional distance may suit, and the manner of her Newcastle victory provides some encouragement.

Ultimately, Nathan Doyle and the ownership group will determine the next step based on how she recovers and progresses.

There is no need to rush.

The important achievement is that Perini Miss has now established herself as a winner.

Why These Victories Matter to Kurrinda Bloodstock

Racehorse syndication is often associated with major races, expensive yearlings and dreams of Group 1 glory.

Those ambitions are an important part of the industry.

But the enjoyment of ownership is not restricted to elite races.

Sometimes the most rewarding moments arrive in a provincial maiden.

They arrive when a horse that has been disappointing suddenly produces a performance that changes everyone’s outlook.

They arrive when patient owners are rewarded.

They arrive when a trainer’s hard work produces a tangible result.

And they arrive when a group of people who have shared the ups and downs of a horse’s career finally get to celebrate.

Perini Miss’s Newcastle victory was one of those occasions.

The mare didn’t simply scrape home.

She won decisively.

She defeated the favourite.

She showed speed, determination and an ability to sustain her effort.

Most importantly, she gave her owners a reason to look forward with renewed excitement.

That is what racehorse ownership should be about.

The opportunity to share experiences.

The excitement of following a horse’s development.

And the satisfaction of knowing that patience and good management can sometimes produce remarkable results.

A Victory Worth Celebrating

For Perini Miss, Tuesday, 6 October 2026, will always represent an important milestone.

It was the day she became a race winner.

For Nathan Doyle, it was another demonstration of his ability to improve a horse after a stable change.

For Regan Bayliss, it was a perfectly executed front-running ride.

For Maurice Sinclair and the breeding interests, it was another special chapter in the Santorini Miss family story.

And for Kurrinda Bloodstock and its owners, it was a tremendous reward for patience and belief.

There will be tougher races ahead.

There will be new challenges.

And, as always in racing, nothing is guaranteed.

But Perini Miss has now shown what she can do.

Her 2.78-length victory at Newcastle was more than a breakthrough maiden success.

It was a performance that suggested a promising next chapter may be beginning.

Congratulations to all owners, Nathan Doyle and his team, Regan Bayliss, and everyone involved in Perini Miss’s journey.

At Kurrinda Bloodstock, we look forward to seeing where that journey takes her next.

Because sometimes the most exciting part of racehorse ownership begins with that very first victory.

And for Perini Miss, it was certainly worth waiting for.
