Malaboom Ready To Fire In Exciting Renewal of the Mick Dittman Plate 2024

Malaboom looks for further Black Type Stakes success to further enhance her residual value. A great investment for all of her ownership group when she eventually sell as a potential broodmare

Malaboom will take on Champion Singapore jockey Vlad Duric has landed the best ride in his return to Australian racing,  Magic Millions winner Skirt The Law in Saturday’s Listed Mick Dittman Plate (1000m) at Eagle Farm

With both Skirt the Law and Malaboom set to race at 55kg in the set weights feature, regular jockey Ryan Maloney is unable to make the weight, opening the door for Duric to kick off her winter campaign.

Duric, a Caulfield Cup winner, has made an immediate splash since moving to Brisbane from Singapore and says his connection to trainer Tony Gollan stretches back more than a decade.

When he rode his champion Group 1 winner Spirit Of Boom, sire of Malaboom, in work during a stint in Melbourne.

“I trialled Spirit Of Boom, sire of Malaboom for Tony many, many years ago at Flemington when I was with the Snowdens, so that’s how far we go back,” Duric said.

“It obviously hasn’t been all the way through because I was in Singapore, but it is great to jump on board.

James Orman is the main stable rider for him and a very, very good jockey, so I am there complimenting him and trying to help where I can. James Orman is booked to ride Malaboon on Saturday.

Malaboom will clash of some of Queensland’s best three-year-olds, the Mick Dittman Plate shapes as a major form pointer for the winter, with subsequent Group 1 winner Lady Laguna winning the race last year.

While Maloney is expected to ride Skirt The Law later on in her campaign, Duric said he was just happy to be playing a role in her preparation and ride against Malaboom on Saturday.

“Obviously Ryan can’t ride her because of the weight so Tony offered the ride to me, which is brilliant,” he said.

“She is going really well, I had a gallop on her (on Saturday morning) and she is absolutely flying, she is going to take some beating next week in the Mick Dittman when she lines up against Malaboom.

“She is in great form, Tony and the team have got her absolutely flying, I expect her to be really hard to beat.”

Gollan pulled the pin on a summer campaign for Skirt The Law in November when she was found to have suffered bone chips in her knee as a result of rock hard tracks in Victoria during the spring.

The trainer is daring to dream of winning his first Group one Stradbroke Handicap in the winter with the filly, who could form part of a formidable side for the Eagle Farm conditioner, with Antino also heading in that direction.

Duric last week revealed he is determined to win another major race in Australia before pulling stumps on his career and has tough opposition on Saturday against a formidable opponent in Malaboom.
