Closer look at I Am Unstoppable:
Lucy Yeomans co trainer of I Am Unstoppable has been associated with many a good horse and is not going to get overawed at the thought of winning her first Group 1 race.
In a training partnership with Lloyd Kennewell, the pair will saddle up I Am Unstoppable in the Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Yeomans was a part of the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace team when Coolangatta won last year’s Lightning, toppling crowd favourite Nature Strip.
Being with a big stable taught Yeomans how to absorb pressure and she said that had carried her well in her new role with Kennewell.
“With I Am Unstoppable it feels like working for Maher-Eustace,” Yeomans said.
“When I was there, I was used to absorbing the pressure, as they had multiple good horses.
“It’s nice to have one top horse to focus on although we’ve got lots of nice young horses in the wings, so it’s not all about I Am Unstoppable.
“Last year, I said to Lloyd, I thought Coolangatta going into the Lightning was going really well, but I didn’t think she could beat Nature Strip.
“He was the hype horse, so hopefully it follows on this year as Imperatriz is the hype horse and he (I Am Unstoppable) can go past her.”
I Am Unstoppable has raced up the Flemington straight on three occasions, finishing second each time, all last spring.
The most recent was in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) last November.
She said I Am Unstoppable was a different horse this time around, more athletic, more furnished.
“He’s turned from a boy into a man,” Yeomans said.
“Last prep, we didn’t struggle to get the weight off him, but he was a bit big all-the-time and did a bit well, whereas this prep we have given him one trial and he was already at his racing weight.
Yeomans said Saturday’s outing would determine I Am Unstoppable immediate program.
The Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington next month is on the cards, as is a potential trip to the UK for Royal Ascot.
“The future for him we’re not sure about,” Yeomans said after Widden Stud bought into the colt.
“We are guaranteed we can race him until July and then we have a discussion as that was part of the stud deal.
“Lloyd and I have had a pipedream of taking him to Royal Ascot, but we haven’t really discussed it.
“If I Am Unstoppable wins the Lightning or the Newmarket Handicap, we will have a discussion about it, but whether it happens, it still has to be decided.”
I Am Unstoppable’s little sister:
We managed to secure I Am Unstoppable’s 1/2 sister Satin Stiletto at the yearling sale after doing our homework we purchased her for what we thought was great value.
A filly by Written Tycoon (Yulong Stud) out of the 2 year old Gimcrack winning mare Satin Slipper. Written Tycoon is a eight time Victorian Champion Sire and has produced 52 individual stakes winners include Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Capitalist (Stallion Newgate Farm), Group 1 Blue Diamond winner Written By, (Stallion Widden Stud), Group 1 winners Coolangatta, Ole Kirk (Stallion Vinery Stud), Pippie, Tycoon Tara, Music Magnate (NZ), Booker, Odeum, Luna Rossa (NZ) as well as stallions Rich Enuff (Woodside Park) and Winning Rupert (Grandview Stud).
Satin Stiletto’s dam Satin slipper was not only a very fast 2 year herself but she is the dam of the Stakes winning Group 1 Coolmore second I Am Unstoppable making him a half brother to Satin Stiletto. Satin Slipper by Champion racehorse Pierro (Coolmore Australia) is out of the Group 2 winning mare Satin Shoes a proven producer herself with 5 runners to the track for 4 winners of multiple races.
She was presented at the Inglis Classic sale in 2023 by Newgate Farm, a well renowned as one of the best nurseries in recent years producing 11 individual Group 1 winners Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside, TAB Everest and Group 1 Stradbroke winner Think About It, Foxplay, Prompt Response and many more.
They have produced 72 stakes winners and over 800 individual winners. The Inglis Classic Sale has forged a significant reputation over the years on the back of star graduates like Extreme Choice (Stallion Newgate Farm), I Am Invincible (Stallion Yarraman Park), Choisir, She Will Reign, Yankee Rose, Vow And Declare, Classique Legend, In Her Time, Brazen Beau, Hellbent (Stallion Yarraman Park) and Castelvecchio (Stallion Arrowfield) among many others.
It is the only sale at which you could have bought the winners of each of The Everest, Golden Slipper, Melbourne Cup and Blue Diamond in the past 10 years. Satin Stiletto was a purchase on the back of some astute research delving into her pedigree we quickly earmarked her as a filly who could residually be of considerable value one day.
She was a nice type albeit a touch on the small side but we knew that was a trait all the family tended to carry so we were not put off. Although small in stature she was well put together with plenty of room for scope in the future.
