OWNER for the month of December is first-time owner David Gantley. Dave recently got involved in the exciting 2 year-old Private Harry, who is not far off having his first trial.
Q- How did you initially get interested in racing?
A- My initial interest in horses started with my dad getting us into ponies and from there we made a little business out of buying and selling a few every year.
Q- What is the best race you have ever seen?
A- Sea the Stars winning the Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe in 2009 representing Ireland, he had a few doubters but he proved them wrong.
Q- What is your favourite racing moment?
A- My favourite racing moment is not really one moment but two, seeing Tiger Roll winning back-to-back English Grand Nationals was very special, he was a small horse but a huge heart.
Q- If you could own any horse of any era, who and why?
A- Chautauqua, he was so exciting to watch coming from the back with that turn of foot. And he showed personality too, he let everyone know when he wanted to go down a different career path.
Q- If you could attend any race meeting in the world what would it be?
A- One meeting I would like to attend I have actually been to a few times and that is the Galway racing festival. I just love it, a great week and I’d go every year if I could.
Q- How does the racing differ from Ireland to Australia?
A- The racing differs a lot from home, in particular the prize money, but one of the biggest things and one I miss is the National Hunt (jumps) racing. It’s much bigger at home and would be on par with flat racing. I loved the battles between Ireland and Britain at the jumps festivals even though we would always beat them.
Q- If you could invite 3 people dead or alive to dinner who would you choose?
A- Roy Keane, Post Malone and my friend Kevin who unfortunately passed away in 2012.
Q- Why would you recommend someone to get involved and join Kurrinda Bloodstock?
A- I would recommend someone to become an owner with Kurrinda Bloodstock because from the start to finish the process was hassle-free. Being an owner with Kurrinda is much more affordable than I expected and I really like the type of horses the team buys.
Q- Winx or Black Caviar?
A-Winx
Q- Melbourne Cup or TAB Everest?
A- Melbourne Cup
Q- Beer or Wine?
A- Beer
Q- Home cooked meal or pub feed?
A- “Mammy’s home cooked dinner”
Q- Best place to watch the racing?
A- Love a few beers at the pub watching the races
