Blues team news for State of Origin
James Tedesco has been called in to replace Dylan Edwards, with the Panthers fullback set to miss his State of Origin debut with a quad injury.
Scott Drinkwater was listed as 18th man in the third and final game last season, while Clint Gutherson was named on the bench for State of Origin.
Stephen Crichton and Tom Trbojevic were expected to be selected as the centre pairing, however, injury disaster struck once again for the Manly star, with a hamstring issue sidelining him for up to two months missing State of Origin.
Bradman Best looked in line to reclaim his spot in the centres but the hamstring epidemic across the competition hit him as well, ruling him out for at least Game 1 of State of Origin.
This has opened the door for Joseph Suaalii to slot into the centres, with Zac Lomaxto make his Blues debut on the wing for State of Origin.
Maguire had reportedly been watching Jesse Ramien closely, but he missed out along with Latrell Mitchell on Sate of Origin selection.
Brian To’o will start on the other wing for Sate of Origin.
Nathan Cleary was almost certain to be named at halfback but he now looks likely to miss the entire series, with first-choice replacement Mitch Moses also missing out for the Sate of Origin opener due to injury.
This has seen Nicho Hynes named at halfback for Sate of Origin, despite the Cronulla playmaker going down with a calf injury ahead of selection day.
He will be partnered by Jarome Luai at five-eighth.
Payne Haas will be joined up front by Jake Trbojevic, who has also assumed the captaincy for Sate of Origin.
The Penrith connection will be strong for the opener with Liam Martin and Isaah Yeo named, while there is also a Blues Sate of Origin debut for Manly enforcer Haumole Olakau’atu.
Angus Crichton has earned a starting berth on an edge for Sate of Origin.
Api Koroisau was predicted to take the No.9 jersey for Game I Sate of Origin, although Reece Robson will now start at hooker.
Cameron McInnes will make his NSW Sate of Origin debut at lock, with the ability to cover at dummy-half.
Hudson Young, meanwhile, has earned an interchange spot.
Young debuted for the Blues in the opener last year but was later dropped. The Canberra backrower has got the jump on Keaon Koloamatangi after the latter’s indifferent form for the Rabbitohs.
Spencer Leniu has beaten Stefano Utoikamanu to one of the remaining bench spots for Sate of Origin.
Queensland State of Origin Team News:
The Maroons appeared to have a major decision to make at fullback, with Reece Walsh and Kalyn Ponga vying for the No.1 jersey. However, the Newcastle captain went down with a long-term injury which will see Walsh retain his spot.
Meanwhile, their forward stocks have taken a big hit with mainstay Tino Fa’asuamaleaui sidelined due to a knee injury.

Maroons team news for State of Origin
Walsh starred in the first two games for QLD last year before suspension saw him miss the third instalment. He has earned the No. 1 jersey ahead of AJ Brimson for State of Origin.
Murray Taulagi has secured a spot on the wing, with Selwyn Cobbo transitioning to a new bench role for State of Origin..
Xavier Coates will take the other spot out on the chalk, with the Storm winger recently returning from a hamstring issue.
Valentine Holmes will start in the centres, joined by Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow.
Cam Munster and Daly Cherry-Evans were set to form an experienced halves partnership, but an injury to the Melbourne five-eighth opened the door for Cowboys playmaker Tom Dearden to reprise the role he ably stepped into for the 2022 decider.
With Fa’asuamaleaui out of the series, Lindsay Collins will start up front alongside Reuben Cotter.
The one-two punch of Ben Hunt and Harry Grant will continue, with the St George Illawarra skipper named to start at hooker and Grant to enter the fray off the pine for the opener for State of Origin..
In a shock call, star backrower David Fifita has been dropped from the squad entirely for State of Origin..
This will see Jaydn Su’A and Jeremiah Nanai take the remaining forward spots, joining Pat Carrigan at lock.
Tom Flegler will miss at least the opening match of the State of Origin. series as he continues to battle with a shoulder injury.
Jai Arrow has returned to club action with South Sydney but has been overlooked, with Moeaki Fotuaika and J’maine Hopgood taking the final two interchange slots.
