Nathan Doyle started out with just three horses to his name a few years ago, now he might have stumbled upon the horse of a lifetime after combining with one of his best mates to flatten his rivals in the $3m Magic Millions Sunlight (1100m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday night.

The Newcastle trainer is shooting for the stars after Private Harry kept his unbeaten record in tact to take down some of the sport’s biggest names.

Doyle has backed in Welsh jockey Ash Morgan every step of the way and the pair combined for the biggest win of their respective careers in a David v Goliath battle.

The little known Private Harry was taking on Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot, but the colt made light work of her when he put a huge gap on his rivals at the top of the straight, leaving Doyle to declare it all over at the 200m mark.

The emotional trainer held back tears as he took in the biggest moment of his career.

“I don’t know what to say … Someone pinch me,” Doyle said.

“It means so much.

“When we first went out training, I had three horses that we owned ourselves, you have to prove yourself and it takes time.

“It has been so hard to get here, taking our time, proving ourselves, getting the staff and the horses.

“He is such a beautiful horse, and what about Ash? They ask why do you stick with him? He is a mate, he rides work and he hasn’t done anything wrong.

“I met him in Scone when he was first starting out in Australia, he had to go to the non-TAB’s to get a ride — now look at him.”

Bookmakers saw enough to have Private Harry as one of the next big things, slashing his quote for The Everest to $18.

Doyle was left kicking stones when the race meeting was controversially moved from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast on Friday night, but his colt relished the rapidly drying track to make a mess of his rivals.

“I was thinking at the 500m that if he extends like the horse I know he is, it is over,” Doyle said.

“He has the most beautiful action, he is such a nice animal, I don’t know what more to say about him.

“It is all in his first racing preparation, where do you go from here?

“He is so bomb proof, I was confident at the 500m, you shouldn’t be confident at the 500m.

“They were travelling so quick and he was going three-quarter pace, how does that happen?”

It continued a golden run for jockey Ash Morgan, who is putting his name up in lights.

“Every year I have been here it has gotten better and better, I had my first stakes winner in Australia on Wednesday and I don’t usually get that animated,” he said.

“It was an incredible feeling going over the line, he is some horse, we ran along and all I was doing was getting him to come back to me.”
