Half Crown is a gelding by Foxwedge (Woodside Park Stud), who is the most successful active son of Champion Sire and Sire-of-Sires Fastnet Rock … a brilliant sprinter – including Group 1 William Reid Stakes (beating Hay List & Buffering), Foxwedge, who now stands at Woodside Park in Victoria, he has already produced 5 Group 1 winners of his own in Lunar Fox, Foxplay, Urban Fox, Run Fox Run and Volpe Veloce – in 4 different countries … sire of nearly 8% stakes performers to runners out of the High Chaparral mare Santorini Miss, High Chaparral is a six time group 1 winner including the Irish and English Derby double for his connections Coolmore.
The Foxwedge – High Chaparral cross has a 75% strike rate. High Chaparral has 40 stakes winners as a broodmare sire. Santorini Miss is out of the Group 1 winning mare Special Mission who has produced multiple stakes winner Redouble a $1.2 million earner and Kozciusko runner up is a half-brother to Santorini Miss who was a winner herself at 1300m.
Half Crown was a relatively cheap purchase when secured at Inglis HTBA sale, then held in Scone a sale rich in history having produced many horses of quality including Group 1 performer Voodoo Lad and Rocketing By.
Half Crown was nice shape of a horse as a yearling, he had a great hind end and a good shoulder, he carried himself well, although not overly big he was no standout at the sale as reflected in his price but there was something about him he had a fantastic willing attitude, a very professional customer and wanted to work with you all positive traits that would allow him to go on to become a very genuine and honest race horse.
