Breaking In A Racehorse And Education

What Is Breaking In A Horse?

The process of breaking in a horse depends involves getting a horse comfortable with having a rider on its back. Breaking in a horse is a gentle and trust-building practice. This process varies depending on the horse’s individual needs, demeanour and fitness.

At Kurrinda Bloodstock Syndications, we pride ourselves in giving our horses every opportunity on the track. For this, the welfare of our race horses is paramount.

This is especially true when breaking in a horse, since it is their first adjustment to racing life.

The Process of Breaking In A Horse

After purchasing the horse at the sales we get together and observe the horse as to where it needs to go whether it’s a short break back at our farm or straight to the breakers.

Then, we utilise Morgan Thoroughbreds Breaking & Pre Training to Educate our horses – the job that Luke and team do for us is second to none.

After this, once our yearlings are broken in, they will then come back to us at the farm for 4-6 weeks for some time off. Next, they will then return to the breakers for another 4-6 week refresher before returning to our farm for an additional 4-6 weeks off. Finally, the horse will then head straight into our system with our selected trainer.
