Sydney premiership within Nash Rawiller’s reach as season nears end
A treble at Randwick for Nash Rawiller has him within striking distance of claiming his fourth Sydney metropolitan riders’ premiership while a return date for table topper James Mcdonald is yet to be confirmed.
While McDonald has been sidelined for most the past month through illness, Nash Rawiller has clawed back the gap to be sitting three wins shy of McDonald’s tally of 109 wins.
Nash Rawiller capped the day steering the South Of India ($4.20) to the outside rail in the home running and a fifth-straight win for the three-year-old gelding in the final event of the day, the Schweizer Kobras Lawyers Handicap (1000m).
Nash Rawiller’s first winner of the day was in the third race, the TAB Highway Plate (1600m) aboard the well-fancied Cranky Harry ($1.80 bookmakers favourite), with Ha Ha Ha ($6.50) providing his second in the Elite Sand and Soil Handicap (1600m).
Five race meetings remain in Sydney’s metropolitan scene towards the season ending on July 31.
According to Racing and Sports, Nash Rawiller is riding at a winning strike-rate of approximately 20% for season 2023/24.
Queen’s Rhapsody is a filly by So You Think (Coolmore Australia) who was a 10 time Group 1 winner in 2 hemispheres defeating over 75 individual Gr.1 winners with earnings of $8.9 million and is out of the Flying Spur mare Spurs and Sashes. So You Think has produced 11 individual Group 1 winners to date such as Think It Over winner of the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes and Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Quick Thinker winner of the Gr.1 Australian Derby, Inference Group 1 Randwick Guineas winner, Nakeeta Jane Group 1 Surround Stakes & Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes winner, D’Argento (Stallion Bowness Stud) winner of the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas. Runner-up in the Gr.1 Epsom Handicap, Nimalee winner of the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf. As well as Think About It winner of the $20m TAB Everest, Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup and Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap. Think About It is bred on the very same So You Think/Flying Spur cross, a cross that has produced one of the best sprinters in the country if not the world.
Queen’s Rhapsody’s dam Spurs and Sashes has already produced Four runner for four winners of multiple races including full sister Sonora a four time city winner and exciting half brother Boston Rocks. Flying Spur’s remarkable effectiveness as a broodmare sire is evident in 76 stakes winners to date, featuring Group 1 winners Preferment, Delago Deluxe, Sebring, Speak Fondly, Headway, Grand Journey and Shillelagh. He has been a top 10 fixture on the Australian Broodmare Sires’ Premiership for the past nine seasons and is currently fourth, with $104 million and 10 stakes winners headed by Pierata (Stallion Yulong Stud). Queen’s Rhapsody was offered by one of Australasia’s leading nurseries in Segenhoe Stud who in recent years have produced Group 1 winners including Oohood, Manuel Eagle Way, Voodoo Lad, Merchant Navy and Kings Legacy (both stallions now at Coolmore Australia). She was presented at the Inglis Easter sale 2023, a sale that has produced 31 G1-winning graduates since 2018, eight could have been purchased for $200,000 or less just like Queen’s Rhapsody, including the likes of Mizzy, Exceedance, Aristia, Land Of Plenty, Zoutori, Nettoyer, Quick Thinker and Funstar. Queen’s Rhapsody was a beautiful, elegant filly who oozed class. She was a strong, forward filly, well-proportioned and carried herself very well. She was a real standout from the minute we laid eyes on her and from a proven nursery we have had success with previous.
She is trained by David Pfieffer in Warwick Farm, Sydney. David is a regular in the NSW trainer’s premiership for the last decade or so and operates at a fantastic strike rate, he is complimented by fantastic state of the art facilities
